My occasional sad mood...

I am not sure what it is exactly. Maybe it's spring... I always start to miss the sun shining on the hard crusted snow and the cool but still pleasant air that circulates in that time before spring really hits - What I call "Spring's spring". It's the easiest time to breath without any allergens about but you still have to dig out your sunglasses. I'll have to dig up my poem I wrote about that and post it here.

This is also the month that makes me think of my precious little boy with the blond ringlets that used to cook beside me with his own plastic pot and spoon. That little boy that I used to read board books to will be 13 in 5 days. A teenager, I just don't feel that old. He passed the SAT 2 months ago and is talking about college courses during the summer and getting his driving permit in another year. Man I miss those board books and hearing him say "mommy read"....

Oh, but chances are I'm in this downcast mood because my grandmother passed during this time last year. I can't shake the images of her playing her guitar in her rocking chair on the front porch and singing "just a closer walk with thee". Her front yard was surrounded by hydrangeas, roses, and other beautiful flowers. She never had a hair out of place but worked harder than anyone. She was my inspiration and I always tried hard to impress her. After she died I had quite a crash.... but now I'm up again, just like she would have been. She, however, would have gotten up much quicker than I did. I remember how persistent and stubborn she was about getting what she wanted. I always wanted to be just like her and my mom used to scream in frustration that I was just that. I plan to use every ounce of that "spirit" to achieve my goal of becoming a nurse. I know she will be proud even from Heaven.

So for now, I'm going to go back to my room and paint my nails while listening to Taylor Swift. Her song's are sweet and make me smile. Here's that poem....

A Winter Farewell

I shall miss the winds that blow
Across the silent evening snow
And the lonely swaying of the pine
And the birch that move together in line.

And I shall miss the looming moon

That carries the whistle of the wind

Update

I have been very busy lately with my classes so I haven't knit anything new. I did learn how to weave in the ends of my green washcloth and it turned out so nice. I have many knitting projects planned but I can't do much right now since I really need to be concentrating on my classes. I have several gift ideas and I've been using my 40% off coupons to get up a stockpile of yarn. This winter should be very productive!

I'm starting another washcloth called the "Garter Stitch Lace Facecloth". I'm using some yarn I found on clearance at JoAnn's called Bellezza Collection Smania in "Berry Multi". I can't find my size 6 needles right now so I'm using my 7's and not sure I like how loose it is. We'll see if this thing gets very far without getting ripped out.

We had our first snow so now my garden is mush ;O( Now I need to go out there and clean up my beds before we have a snow that sticks.

I joined a new bookclub called Paperback Swap. So far I'm really enjoying it!

My oldest son is doing great in school this year. He tested really high at the end of last year (6th grade) so he will be taking the SAT in September. He may qualify for a scholarship! He could also take some college classes duing the summer if he passes the SAT. He's been working really hard to keep up his grades since I told him I would buy him a laptop ONLY if he gets all A's and no more than 4 B's this year. The more A's the better the computer! He's missed getting in a couple of assignments on time so he's trying to get all the extra credit he can. It's nice to see him try so hard. I'm hoping he will like the recognition he'll get for getting in the honor roll and will keep it up. I can't always buy him something big like that but there will always be upgrades and accessories for the darned thing.

I have a hair appointment on the 10th and I'm thinking about cutting it short again. I'm thinking of doing another Faith Hill haircut.

Recent happenings, including snow in June!

It's been a long time since I've written in here. I've been so busy lately that I haven't had much time. I started my classes last month which keeps me studying most of the time. Actually I'm about to go crazy and I've only started 2 out of 3 of the classes I signed up for. Human Relations doesn't start until July. I've had to put down the knitting and guitar for a while, which is a bummer. Summer finally came too so I have a tendency to play in the dirt instead of study like I should. I only planted a few things so far and it's a good thing! It snowed this weekend!!!! I know, it's JUNE! I'm pretty sure that's never happened before. So my yard looks like a garbage dump with flower beds lined in cardboard boxes, upside-down pots, and garbage bags tied around small trees. Oh, and to make it unmistakable that a bunch of bums live here, I have a few old, faded towels draped over my barely emerging tulip bulbs. My husband just loves this new look..... yeah.

Well, I'm pretty sure it will warm up sooner or later....... or at least once, just before fall. For now this is actually good for me because this not-so-nice weather will most likely keep me inside studying instead of outside playing.

On anoher note, I did finally have a good review at work. I was really shocked! I was so used to the constantly negative and nitpicking reviews that intead of grinning and being glad at first I was waiting for the huge "but..." to drop down on my good mood...and preparing myself. I was pleasantly surprised! I actually got a 6% raise too. That's better than the 4% that is the norm these days. I have been working my butt off to keep up though so I'm glad they noticed!

Well I better get back to studying.....

I am really tired this morning..... I haven't been sleeping well so I finally took something to help me sleep. Now I will feel like a zombie for the whole day but at least I'm not exhausted. I really don't feel like doing my hair. I think I'll just go to work looking like a drowned rat. My hair would probably freeze though. It was snowing like a bugger yesterday and I know my car looks more like a bump in the driveway snow. UGH. Isn't it Friday yet?

It's really nasty out. Driving today was awful. It's snowed pretty much all day except for when it rained. The roads were like skating rinks. I'm starting to catch a cold so I wasn't too excited about venturing out. We did have a nice time though and a great lunch at Boston's.

My husband bought a laptop and he's pretty thrilled with that. He has wanted one so badly. I'm so glad he finally got one he likes. My mission for the day was to find 2 large planters that I like for my large plants in the living room. It was difficult to find something I liked in the size I needed and then even harder to find two that matched. The two I found look like old urns in a nice neutral shade of fake stone. They cost me $70 for the two. Yikes! I ended up spending $80 counting the extra soil I needed. It's worth it though, the plants look great in them and really needed the room to expand.
